The best group challenge is one everyone can start tomorrow, finish in a few weeks, and check off in a minute a day. Here are 21 ideas that work for friends, couples, families and teams, grouped by what they build. Each one includes a sensible length and the rule that keeps it fair.

Fitness challenges

  1. 30-Day Plank Challenge: from 20 seconds to 5 minutes, with four rest days. The classic first group challenge because it takes under five minutes.
  2. Push-up ladder: 10 to 100 push-ups over 30 days. Let each person pick a level so beginners and gym regulars can compete fairly.
  3. Squat ladder: 20 to 150 squats a day. No equipment, great for families.
  4. 10,000 steps a day: 30 days, tracked automatically from your phone. Perfect for coworkers.
  5. 30-minute daily walk: a gentler version of the steps challenge.
  6. Couch to 5K together: three runs a week for nine weeks; use a custom challenge with weekday-only tasks.
  7. Daily stretch: 10 minutes of mobility for 21 days. Underrated for desk workers.
  8. Stairs only: no elevators for 14 days. Simple, funny, effective.

Reset challenges

  1. 75 Soft: workout, water, reading and mindful eating for 75 days, with a weekly rest day.
  2. 75 Days — Tough: the hardest version, with two workouts and a restart if you miss anything. Only for groups who like pain.
  3. Alcohol-free month: 31 days, done by default, log a slip honestly.
  4. No added sugar: 21 days. Agree on the rules for fruit before you start.
  5. No takeaway: cook every dinner for 14 days and share photos.
  6. Water challenge: 2–3 litres a day for 30 days.

Mind and habit challenges

  1. Read every day: 10 pages for 30 days. A book club’s secret weapon.
  2. Early riser: out of bed by your set time for 21 days.
  3. Phone-free evenings: no phone after 22:00 for 21 days.
  4. Daily journaling: three lines a night for 30 days.
  5. Language streak: 15 minutes of practice a day for 66 days, the length often quoted for forming a habit.
  6. Meditation: 10 minutes a day for 21 days.
  7. Gratitude: share one good thing in the group feed every day for 14 days.

How to choose

For a first challenge, pick something that takes less than ten minutes a day and lasts 21–30 days. Longer challenges like 75 Soft are better as a second round, once the group has a streak behind it. And keep the group small: 4–6 people is the sweet spot where everyone notices who has not checked in yet.
